Reflections and Revelations: Embracing the Journey of Self-Discovery

Have you ever caught a glimpse of yourself in a mirror and thought, “Who the hell is that?”
LOL… It’s a strange moment, isn’t it? We see our reflection every day, but do we really see ourselves?
Women, I mean, come on, we spend soooo much time looking at ourselves – fixing our hair, checking our teeth for little green bits, making sure today’s outfit doesn’t have last week’s lunch on it. Yet how often do we really look beyond the surface? How often do we take the time to see who we truly are, beneath the carefully curated exterior?
I remember a time when I was so focused on how others saw me that I lost sight of how I saw myself. It was like I was wearing a mask, always trying to present the “desired” version of myself to the world, especially to my partner. It’s exhausting, am I right??
So… here’s the thing – when we don’t truly see ourselves, we miss out on so much. You might miss the steel in your eyes that’s gotten you through tough times. You may overlook the laugh lines that reveal your stories of joy. You forget to notice the unique quirks that make you, you, and me, me!
More importantly, not really seeing ourselves means playing the blame game, striving for (impossible) perfection, and feeling guilt when we take time for ourselves (remember, there’s no “i” in team, girls!) And all of those things mean we are blocking our abundance.
How do we start really seeing ourselves? It’s not about staring into a mirror for hours (though a good, long look can be revealing!). It’s about taking the time to check in, to peel back the layers and get curious about who you are at your core.
Try this: Next time you’re getting ready in the morning, pause for a moment. Look beyond the surface reflection and ask yourself, “What do I see when I look at myself? What would I notice if I were meeting myself for the first time?” You might be surprised at what you discover.
Is that someone else’s voice you hear in your head when you look? An unwanted roommate telling you that you’re too fat or too thin, unlikeable or worse, unlovable? Remember to tell that voice “thank you for sharing.” You are the expert on you. No one else can tell you who you are or what you’re capable of.
Now, I’m not saying this self-reflection journey is always easy. Sometimes, what we see when we really look can be uncomfortable. We might notice parts of ourselves we’ve been trying to hide or change. Here comes the beautiful part — when we truly see ourselves, flaws and all, we open the door to genuine self-acceptance and growth.
Now, here’s my challenge to you this week: Take some time to really see yourself. It could be a quiet moment of reflection in the morning, or a journaling session where you explore your thoughts and feelings. Maybe it’s a conversation with a trusted friend where you share the parts of yourself you usually keep hidden.
Whatever you choose, approach this self-discovery with kindness and curiosity. You’re not here to judge or criticize, just to understand and appreciate the unique individual that you are.
I’d love to hear about your experiences with this little exercise. What did you discover when you really looked at yourself? Was it scary? Exciting? A bit of both? Drop me a line and share your insights. Your journey of self-discovery might just inspire someone else to take a closer look at themselves too.
Remember, you are a complex, beautiful, ever-evolving being. You deserve to be seen – especially by yourself.
Blue Skies!
Love,
Halle
